2nd Gender in Forestry Conference - Umeå, Sweden 15-18 June 2009

Dear Forest-L Reader,
The 2nd Gender in Forestry Conference, Making a difference in theory and
practice will be held in Umeå, Sweden on 15-18 June 2009.
The conference is organized by the Faculty of Forest Sciences, SLU in
cooperation with FAO, UNECE and IUFRO.
With this conference, we believe that another step towards a better
understanding of gender in the forestry sector will be gained and ideas for
resolving gender issues can be generated. We seek reports on progress and
backlashes to help identify the means and actions that have proven to be
effective. Those will be organized into the following topics:
1. Making a difference through education, knowledge exchange, and capacity
building
2. Making a difference through policies and statistical analysis
3. Making a difference through cooperation, networking and the
establishments of role models
4. Making a difference through advances in theoretical and empirical
research

IUFRO 3.08 Small Scale Forestry early registration

Dear Colleague,
This is a reminder for those who have not already registered that the early registration deadline for the IUFRO 3.08 Small-Scale Forestry Symposium is April 1, 2009. I hope you will make your registrations soon as the registration cost increases after this date. A link to online registration can be found at: http://ssf09.com/.
Also, if you are interested in attending the pre-conference workshops on "Asking the right questions: A workshop on designing qualitative research" with Dr. John Bliss or "Internet, Mail and Mixed-Mode Surveys: The Tailored Design Method" with Dr. Don Dillman, please register as soon as possible. After April 1st, we will begin advertising these workshops to other researchers and these workshops can take a limited number of participants.
The post-conference tour is also somewhat limited, so be sure to sign up if interested!
Please note that there is an accompanying persons registration for the conference portion of the symposium that includes lunches, field trip, BBQ dinner, and Dinner Cruise. See registration form for details.
We are looking forward to a very productive symposium. So far we have abstracts from 25 different countries.

IUFRO 3.08 Small Scale Forestry Symposium Registration

The secure online registration is now available for the IUFRO 3.08 Small-Scale Forestry Symposium "Seeing the Forest Beyond the Trees: New possibilities and expectations for products and services from small-scale forestry," June 5-13 in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA. You can access registration from the front page of the symposium website: http://ssf09.com/. Early discounted registration should be made by April 1, 2009.
The scientific panel has completed reviews for abstracts from 25 countries. Preconference workshops feature Dr. John Bliss teaching "Asking the right questions: A workshop on designing qualitative research " and Dr. Don Dillman teaching "Designing Quality Surveys in a Mixed-Mode World." Our postconference tour will feature "Small-scale forestry and tourism in the Appalachian Mountains."
