2018 LANDIS Conference and Training
We are excited to announce our next training and conference on June 27-29, 2018 in Madison, Wisconsin. Attend either or both sessions.
* Training will be on the 27th and 28th and includes two full days of hands-on training and a training guidebook.
* The conference on the 29th will include presentations on recent updates and future plans for the LANDIS model. There will also be break-out groups to discuss and plan for specific needs. These discussions are critical for determining the near term investments we collectively make in the LANDIS framework.
All events will happen at the Pyle Center <http://conferencing.uwex.edu/about/pyle-center/> http://conferencing.uwex.edu/about/pyle-center/ on the UW Campus. A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the Lowell Center, next door <http://conferencing.uwex.edu/hotel-accommodations/> http://conferencing.uwex.edu/hotel-accommodations/. Other hotel options are available in the registration site.
Registration: $300 for the training and conference, $100 for the conference alone, $40 for Thursday dinner. If you are coming only for the Friday conference, we recommend arriving in time for the Thursday evening social and dinner. Registration is now online.

Dear IUFRO Landscape Ecology WP members,
Please keep in mind that the deadline for the submission of proposals
for sessions at the IUFRO 2018 Posadas conference on "Adaptive
Management for Forested Landscapes in transformation" is February 3,
2018. Also, forum proposals need to be submitted until March 20, 2018.
This conference will highlight accelerated changes imprinted in our
planet within the Anthropocene. Transformation of forest use that is
occurring in response to the pressures of globalization, population
growth, resource scarcity and ecological degradation are part of the
BIG challenges ahead. Biodiversity is essential to human well-being,
but people have been reducing biodiversity throughout human history.
Loss of species and degradation of ecosystems are likely to further
accelerate in the coming years. Nonetheless, global goals to reduce
the rate of biodiversity loss have mostly not been achieved. It is
essential to take into account ecological, economic and functional
values of the landscape to improve planning and decision-making.
Operational solutions are needed to reconciling biodiversity
conservation in the light of increasing demands of natural resources
and land.
