Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce some updates regarding the third 'From Forests to Heritage' conference. This will take place alongside the '2026 World Wood Day Symposium' and the '8th IUFRO Forest Products Culture Colloquium' from 19 to 22 May 2026 in Klagenfurt.
The deadline for submissions is approaching – 31 January. This deadline will not be postponed. Please be on time!
We will contact all those who submitted a proposal as soon as possible.
At the same time, we will begin the registration process and create a new page on the 'From Forests to Heritage' website (https://fromforeststoheritage.dendro.at/)
You can now start booking your accommodation at https://fromforeststoheritage.dendro.at/. 'Visit Klagenfurt' has made some reservations, which you can take advantage of. These must be made by 16 March 2026.
You are also welcome to browse the available excursions.
We are currently setting up some enjoyable evening events, and more information will be available on the website soon.
The conference venue has a capacity of 120 people. If we receive more abstract proposals or registrations than there are places available, entry will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Dear colleagues
The Eighth International Faustmann Symposium, held every four years, will take place October 6–7, 2026 at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, USA, with an optional field trip on October 8. The symposium explores the economics of long-term resource management, building on Martin Faustmann’s 1849 framework.
We welcome contributions addressing topics such as:
* Extensions, applications, and critiques of the Faustmann formula
* Forest and resource economics under risk and uncertainty
* Economic and ecological modeling under environmental and policy fluctuations
* Long-term forest management, sustainability, and climate adaptation
* Decision support systems and integrated approaches linking economics, ecology, and policy
* Broader topics in forest resource economics and applications beyond forestry
Submissions: Extended abstracts (oral presentations only).

Dear colleagues
The Eighth International Faustmann Symposium, held every four years, will take place October 6–7, 2026 at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, USA, with an optional field trip on October 8. The symposium explores the economics of long-term resource management, building on Martin Faustmann’s 1849 framework.
We welcome contributions addressing topics such as:
* Extensions, applications, and critiques of the Faustmann formula
* Forest and resource economics under risk and uncertainty
* Economic and ecological modeling under environmental and policy fluctuations
* Long-term forest management, sustainability, and climate adaptation
* Decision support systems and integrated approaches linking economics, ecology, and policy
* Broader topics in forest resource economics and applications beyond forestry

The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

New Year and 21 Symposuim_Sopron,Hungary

Dear friends,
It is the last working day of 2025 or holiday for some of you 😊 I am there with happy New year wishes and first call of our next year Symposium in Sopron, Hungary!
We all will start to plan events of 2026 after some days (some of you have plans already long time ahead 😊) and I’ll be glad if you could find time to attend the IUFRO Research Group 9.06.00 21.Symposium in Hungary next fall.
I am pleased to send out the first call with basic information about 21st International Symposium on Legal aspects of European Forest Sustainable Development, that will take place in Sopron, Hungary September 29- October 2, 2026. University of Hungary, Faculty of Forestry, Institute of Natural Resources and Forest Management will be the host of our next meeting.
You can decide, if you would like to be part of the event, make registration till March 1, 2026 and start to work on your contribution (presentation or poster) to share your experience in the Symposium next year.
I am 100% sure our upcoming meeting will be as excellent as all previous ones because of our willingness to participate and be part of our IUFRO Research group.

<p>The final episode of <i>Season 2 of Branching Out: The Forest Podcast</i>, hosted by <strong>Jose Bolaños</strong> from IUFRO HQ, focused on IUFRO Scientific Division 9 - <strong>Forest Policy and Economics</strong>. The episode features <strong>Janette Bulkan</strong> from the University of British Columbia in Canada and <strong>Lukas Giessen</strong> from the Technical University Dresden in Germany, along with co-host <strong>Gerda Wolfrum</strong> from IUFRO HQ. Janette and Lukas coordinate Working Parties on <i>Indigenous peoples and forest landscapes</i> and <i>A.I. methods in forest social sciences</i>, respectively. <br /><br />Besides highlighting the broad range of topics covered by Division 9 spanning from forest resources research to information and communication, from forest history to legal aspects, and from forest governance to forest sector analysis, Janette and Lukas explained why the role of social sciences in forest research has become so important. <br /><br />In this context, Lukas referred to a quote by famous forester Jack Westoby who said that "<i>forestry is not about trees, it's about people</i>." <br /><br />Janette focused mainly on the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and forests highlighting her work in the Guyana Shield. Globally, she said, Indigenous Peoples, who have the longest association with specific places, including in forests, which are their traditional ancestral territories, often have the weakest legal rights to those areas. <br /><br />Lukas, on the other hand, delved deeper into the concept of forest governance. He also talked about the big potential that he sees in AI helping social science to increase rigor and to reflect on human biases. It remains to be seen how successful AI will be in analyzing qualitative, not quantitative social science data, but this is what makes it so exciting. <br /><br />Based on these two approaches, the episode investigates how both the traditional and the high-tech knowledge contribute to forest and forest management today and in the future.<br /><br />Finally, looking ahead to the 2029 IUFRO World Congress in Nairobi, the first of its kind on the African continent, both shared their expectations of the event. Subject: 3rd announcement From Forests to Heritage 3
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce some updates regarding the third 'From Forests to Heritage' conference, which will take place alongside the '2026 World Wood Day Symposium' and the '8th IUFRO Forest Products Culture Colloquium' from 19 to 22 May 2026 in Klagenfurt, Austria.
1) You are invited to start booking your accommodation at https://fromforeststoheritage.dendro.at/. “Visit Klagenfurt” has made some reservations, which you can take advantage of. These reservations must be made by 16 March 2026.
2) We are organising several pre- and post-conference excursions.
* On Monday 18 May, you can choose between a forest experience and a visit to a high-tech timber construction company (not confirmed yet – please wait for further information).
* On Saturday 23 May, you can visit the Ljubljana moor and the Ribnica handicraft centre, or the prehistoric salt mines of Hallstatt.
* We can currently provide a rough cost estimate for the excursions. The fixed costs will be available when registration opens at the end of January.
3) Registration will open at the end of January 2026 via an online tool on the website. The conference fee, which covers attendance, coffee breaks and the in-conference excursion, is not fixed yet, but will be less than €200.
4) The call for abstracts will be open until 31 January 2026. This deadline will not be extended in order to maintain the tight schedule leading up to the meeting in May 2026. So submit your abstract on time. We have already received 29 proposals.
The conference venue has a capacity of 120 people. If we receive more abstract proposals or registrations than there are places available, entry will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.
