Dear Member of the Division 4 mailing list,
I am coordinating the IUFRO Division 4 until the end of the IUFRO World
Congress to be held in Curitiba in September/October 2019. I am not
candidate for another term.
The nomination process of the future Coordinator is such that there is a
deadline on December 2017, 31st. Thus I would like to inform you about
the procedure that has been elaborated in order to nominate this future
Coordinator. You will find a short note about this procedure here:
http://docs.gip-ecofor.org/public/Procedure_Nomination_Coordinator_Div4.pdf
I use the Division 4 mailing list to disseminate the information about
this procedure. Present or past Officeholders from Division 4 or other
divisions can be candidates. Candidates should write to me
<jean-luc.peyron(a)gip-ecofor.org> with copy to
<coralie.zettor(a)gip-ecofor.org> until November 2017, 15th at the latest.
Then, only Division 4 Officeholders will vote until November 2017, 30th
at the latest.
Best regards.

Read an interview with Division 4 Coordinator Jean-Luc Peyron of the Public
Interest Group (GIP) on Forest Ecosystems (ECOFOR), France, about the work
in IUFRO Division 4 and the All-Division Meeting at the IUFRO 125th
Anniversary Congress.
The research range of Division 4 is rather broad, but it is consistent with
the needs of policy makers and forest practitioners. For the Freiburg
Congress, Division 4 organized more than 20 sessions.
Technological developments give great opportunities to forest assessment,
information systems, and the constitution and use of big data sets.
Forest assessment measurements are made in order to predict the value of
some variables and models are run to predict the evolution of those
variables. There are uncertainties behind those results, especially when the
prediction horizon is long.
It is therefore important to produce models that integrate several scenarios
and also take into account several management options. And that has to be
communicated transparently to decision makers.
