Hello IUFRO 1.05.00 colleagues,
This is an important week for those who are planning to attend the 10th
Workshop in Little Rock!
1) The program is officially announced here:
http://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/news/events/iufro-2016/program.php
2) May 5 is the last day to easily register for the workshop; the
deadline for registration at the $350 conference rate has been extended
through May 5. Please register prior to May 5; we need a good count of
attendees for meals and transportation. You can register at the workshop
website at the Little Rock Convention Center and Visitors' Bureau,
through a link on this page:
http://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/news/events/iufro-2016/registration.php
3) The Doubletree Hotel in Little Rock has extended the deadline for
holding the room block to May 5. Please book your rooms by May 5, so we
can try to add or cut rooms in the block if needed. Registration can be
done "online" or by phone. When booking use the Group Code 'USF'; this
should apply the $109/night conference rate (+tax) for early arrivals on
May 29, the nights of the conference through June 2, and for those
attending the post-conference tour, for the night of May 6 as well.
a) To reserve rooms in the block, call the Doubletree Hotel in Little
Rock directly: 001-501-372-4371.
b) For Online Reservation assistance within the US and Canada, contact
the Hilton Internet Reservations desk at 1-800-774-1500.
c) Or, outside the US and Canada, call the Hilton Reservations Desk at
00-1-800-774-1500, your call will be charged at international direct
dial rates.
Contact Jim Guldin if you have any questions about any of this! Jim is
at +001-870-723-1623, or jguldin(a)fs.fed.us.
I look forward to seeing you in Arkansas in a few weeks time!

Dear all,
You certainly have received this announcement. I think it would be an
excellent opportunity to organize a session on tropical forest
silviculture. Any volunteers to participate ? Any particular thematic to
focus on ?
cheers

Subject: IUFRO Joint International Conference - RG 3.08, RG 9.03, WP 9.05.06
Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to share with you the first announcement and call for submissions for our IUFRO International Conference "Between Tradition and Increasing Challenges: Future Development of Small-scale and Community Forestry in Times of Global Change". Some of you honor us by participating in the Scientific Committee, so I am sure we will have a very interesting meeting!
The conference will provide a unique opportunity to bring together researchers from all over the world to share evidence-based knowledge on small-scale and community forestry issues in Latin America, including the ecological, institutional and anthropogenic factors influencing the management and evolution of forests and forest landscapes. As traditional knowledge plays a substantial role in both small-scale and community forest ownership models, the integration of a historical dimension will provide an additional source of information in order to interpret and understand the challenges and constraints related to global change.
Please find attached the First Announcement as well as two pictures: the Paranaense Rainforest in Misiones, Argentina, and a workshop of mbya guarani craftspeople on valorization of the cultural value inherent to their production.
I look forward to promoting forest history and traditional knowledge (as well as community forestry) at this meeting!
All the best,
Monica

CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS
The Workshop invites oral presentations and poster presentations on the
science, history, and practice of uneven-aged silviculture. Topics can
emphasize the science underlying uneven-aged silviculture, or can
explore the artistic elements of uneven-aged silvicultural practice
(however the authors may choose to interpret that). Presentations and
posters that attempt to bridge the science and the art of uneven-aged
silviculture are especially encouraged.
If you are interested in making a presentation or introducing a poster
please send the following information to gary.kerr(a)forestry.gsi.gov.uk
by Friday 29 January 2016. The submission will then be evaluated by the
scientific committee and authors will be informed of the decision by
Friday 26 February 2016. All submissions should be sent as .doc or .txt
files using the following format.

Deadline for Submissions: 31 January 2016
>From 24 to 27 October 2016, IUFRO will hold its first Regional Congress for Asia and Oceania in Beijing, China. Under the Congress title "Forests for Sustainable Development: the Role of Research", we hope to establish a cutting-edge scientific programme highlighting the role of forest science in informing forest-related policies and management in Asia and Oceania to cope with the significant environmental, social and economic changes in the region and address the consequent challenges.
For such a programme to materialize, we need your contributions: diverse, from inside and outside the region, across the full range of natural and social science disciplines at various levels, from the gene to the globe.
Therefore please submit by 31 January at the latest your session proposals addressing one or more of the following Congress themes:
1. Sustainable forest management for enhanced provision of ecosystem services;
2. Forest and landscape rehabilitation and restoration;
3. Combating desertification, disaster and risk management, and climate change mitigation and adaptation;
4. Planted forests for fostering a greener economy;
5. Innovative technologies for bio-energy, bio-materials and other products;
6. Urban forestry for human health and community well-being;
7. Social and cultural aspects of forests, including traditional knowledge, human health, community participation and gender roles;
8. Forest and agro-forest management for food security, enhanced livelihoods and non-timber forest products.
For further details, please visit <http://www.iufro-ao2016.org/en/news.asp?id=23.html> http://www.iufro-ao2016.org/en/news.asp?id=23.html.
