Dear Participants of the 7th IUFRO 2.09.02 conference in Harbin (China).
We hope you enjoyed the scientific and social programme of the conference and that you had a safe journey back. We were delighted to welcome you in Harbin, and it was more than timely to get back to major networking activity in our scientific community. We are confident that this event will contribute to foster opportunities for both formal and unformal collaborations and we look forward to seeing you again no later than at our next 8th IUFRO 2.09.02 conference to be held in Savonlinna (Finland) 2028.
I would like to share with you some information regarding the publication of the papers presented at our last IUFRO Working Party 2.09.02 meeting.
There will be two publication options:
1.-Original research papers can be submitted for publication in the Journal of Forestry Research (https://link.springer.com/journal/11676) as mentioned by Dr. Shen during the conference. These papers will be considered for publication in a special issue/volume. Please, check the instructions in the web of the journal.
2.-Abstracts and extended abstracts will be published online, as has traditionally been the case.
For the option 2, 2e will accept as usual i) extended abstracts, and updated versions of iii) short abstracts.
Deadline
To be included in the Proceedings, manuscript must be submitted in English by March 31, 2027 to pmoncalean(a)neiker.eus<mailto:pmoncalean@neiker.eus> with cc to: jcanhoto(a)uc.pt<mailto:jcanhoto@uc.pt> and Wangjh(a)caf.ac.cn<mailto:Wangjh@caf.ac.cn>. A submission receipt will be provided by Email. Please inquire if any deadline extension is needed.
Review process
Abstract and extended abstract will be checked by one member of the Editorial Committee for quality-science standard, minor editing, and compliance with the guideline for submission. Authors are solely responsible for the technical details of the paper. Extensive language editing by reviewers is excluded. It is the authors' responsibility to submit a well-written article in suitable English. We suggest careful proofread of the English before submission.

Manuscript will be accepted with reduced delay (no or minor revision) or upon reception of any necessary significant revision.

The FORESTT International Conference invites established scientists, early-career researchers, and doctoral students, as well as forestry professionals and policy experts from around the world to submit abstracts for oral presentations and poster contributions.
Organized by the French research programme on forest resilience (FORESTT), coordinated by INRAE, under the auspices of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations<https://83n2e.r.sp1-brevo.net/mk/cl/f/sh/SMK1E8tHeG7uihu6bpqEOHIxuUeS/BqaEl…> (IUFRO), and in conjunction with major research initiatives (including e.g. the One Forest Vision initiative – OFVi, the Future Forests<https://83n2e.r.sp1-brevo.net/mk/cl/f/sh/SMK1E8tHeGEmAqj3mzziU6bhsnEi/VFhEk…> Cluster of Excellence of the University of Freiburg, Germany, the European FOREST Partnership<https://83n2e.r.sp1-brevo.net/mk/cl/f/sh/SMK1E8tHeGLdczY0yA9CZvuRr5oy/8d9T9…>, as well as several national and European research projects), the conference will provide a unique forum to discuss the resilience of forest social-ecological systems in the face of global environmental change.
Expected to attract 1,000 to 1,200 participants from academia, research organizations, public institutions, the forestry sector, and civil society, the conference will showcase the latest scientific advances while fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
We welcome contributions presenting original research, emerging results, methodological developments, synthesis studies, case studies, innovative applications, and perspectives for future research and practice.

SUBMISSION PROCESS
Authors may submit abstracts for:

For each submission, the following information will be required:

🌲Name, affiliation, and contact details of the main author (presenter)

🌲Abstract (maximum 300 words)

The abstract submission deadline is December 13, 2026.
All submitted abstracts will undergo scientific review by the symposium organizers. The evaluation will consider scientific quality, originality, relevance to the selected symposium, and contribution to the overall conference theme.
Authors will be notified of the outcome of the review process in late January 2027, before the opening of conference registration in February 2027.

Dear IUFRO 2.09.02 and Division 2 Colleagues and Friends,
We are absolutely delighted to announce that the Proceedings of our 6th International Conference in Rotorua (March 2024) are now finalised and released! As mentioned in the Foreword, reaching this milestone has been a long and challenging journey, taking over two years instead of our usual one. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you will take great pleasure in reading this volume. Seeing this work finally come to fruition brings us immense satisfaction :).
A huge thank you to all the authors of the thirty or so contributions, which include full articles, extended abstracts, and short abstracts. We hope that this permanent publication, now carrying an ISBN, will best highlight the work you presented in Rotorua. The Proceedings will soon be permanently available on the IUFRO 2.09.02 webpage (link<https://www.iufro.org/events/6th-iufro-20902-conference-the-might-of-vegeta…>) once the web moderators process our request.

Although distance and various constraints limited the participation of some during this specific edition, their unwavering support and the collegiate and friendly spirit we share remain the bedrock of our Working Party.
For the two of us, these Proceedings also symbolise a long-standing friendship and collaboration that began in the early days of the IUFRO 2.09.02 Working Party. From the organisation of the Brno 2012 conference to the unforgettable hospitality and flawless moral and technical support Jana and her wonderful team provided in Rotorua for local arrangements, our shared journey has been a true privilege.
As we celebrate this milestone for our community, we must also look to the immediate future. We strongly encourage you to participate in the 7th IUFRO 2.09.02 Conference, which will be hosted by the Northeast Forestry University in wonderful Harbin, China, from 22 to 28 August 2026 (follow this IUFRO link<https://www.iufro.org/events/bottleneck-breakthrough-for-tree-somatic-embry…> to find more information, or visit the conference website<https://iufro2-09-02-2026conference.web.app/> directly). The theme, "Bottleneck breakthrough for tree somatic embryogenesis and other vegetative propagation in the era of omics and nanotechnology", promises to be fascinating. Hailong Shen, who has worked tirelessly to bring us to Harbin after our initial 2020 plans were unfortunately thwarted by the pandemic.
Finally, we would like to wish the very best to the excellent new Coordination Team (Paloma, Jorge, Junhui) and to all of you as strong supporters of the IUFRO 2.09.02 community. May we continue to champion excellent R&D and impactful Innovation in the vegetative propagation of trees within this wonderful IUFRO framework, serving the preservation and sustainable management of our vital forest socio-ecosystems.

On a personal note from Jean-François:
These Proceedings mark my very last official action for the Working Party after stepping down as Coordinator in June 2024. Regretfully, I will not be able to join you in Harbin. I will be taking some much-needed time off with my family this August to rest and recharge, before devoting my full energy to the development of the IN-SYLVA Europe Research Infrastructure (RI). It is an ambitious initiative dedicated to forest ecosystem adaptation to global change (europe.in-sylva.com<http://europe.in-sylva.com/>), which has just been accepted onto the ESFRI roadmap<https://www.esfri.eu/latest-esfri-news/six-new-project-proposals-selected-i…>, the European landscape of large RIs. The development of IN-SYLVA Europe is already supported by 50 organisations from 22 countries, including IUFRO, which is part of the Consortium and will facilitate internationalisation beyond Europe.
Although I will deeply miss seeing so many long-time friends at a IUFRO 2.09.02 event for the very first time, I am confident that the development of IN-SYLVA Europe-ultimately a permanent infrastructure offering field experimentation-related services to forest researchers and stakeholders worldwide)-will provide us with wonderful new opportunities to cross paths :). Of course, I am ensuring that tree reproduction, and vegetative propagation technologies in particular, feature prominently in our IN-SYLVA Europe development plan!
