Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to share with you the first announcement and call for submissions for our
IUFRO International Conference "Between Tradition and Increasing Challenges: Future
Development of Small-scale and Community Forestry in Times of Global Change". Some of
you honor us by participating in the Scientific Committee, so I am sure we will have a
very interesting meeting!
The conference will provide a unique opportunity to bring together researchers from all
over the world to share evidence-based knowledge on small-scale and community forestry
issues in Latin America, including the ecological, institutional and anthropogenic factors
influencing the management and evolution of forests and forest landscapes. As traditional
knowledge plays a substantial role in both small-scale and community forest ownership
models, the integration of a historical dimension will provide an additional source of
information in order to interpret and understand the challenges and constraints related to
global change.
Please find attached the First Announcement as well as two pictures: the Paranaense
Rainforest in Misiones, Argentina, and a workshop of mbya guarani craftspeople on
valorization of the cultural value inherent to their production.
I look forward to promoting forest history and traditional knowledge (as well as community
forestry) at this meeting!
All the best,
Monica
