Canada Impact+ Research Chairs in Climate-related Disasters and Community Resilience

The Natural Resources Institute in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth and Resources at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a Canada Impact+ Research Chairs in Community-Based Resource Management and the work of the former Disaster Research Institute. A Canada Impact+ Research Chair is one of the most prestigious international awards globally, providing Chairholders and their research teams with an award of up to $8 million over eight years ($1 million per year). In addition, there is potential for a four-year extension at 50% of the initial award value per year. This extension will be determined by an external review of the award in Year 7.
Successful nominees will be expected to start their position at the University of Manitoba within 12 months of accepting the award. The successful candidate will be appointed to a full-time tenured position at the rank of Full Professor, or at the rank of Associate Professor with an opportunity to apply for promotion to Full Professor within two years of starting their appointment. Salary will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, in accordance with the University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA) collective agreement. The position will be provided with a start-up package and opportunities to compete for additional equipment funding through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
The focus of this position is climate-related disasters and risks, and their management, governance, and/or community resilience. The research should result in transformational and translational impacts on Canada and beyond.
While this is a research-intensive position, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students in the Institute, Faculty, and the University.
Only candidates who are internationally based (both working and residing outside of Canada) at the time of the intake’s application deadline are eligible to apply.
Expected start date of appointment: Within 12 months of the award date (September 2026).

Assistant/Associate Professor – Forest Genetics, Genomics, & Tree Breeding
POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Forest Genetics, Genomics and/or Tree Breeding at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with research, instruction, and university and professional service expectations as part of a 9-month appointment. Potential areas of research may include: Forest genetics, genomics, tree breeding, genomic selection, and gene editing technologies to address the molecular genetic basis of perennial traits relevant to forest productivity, health, adaptation, wood quality, and value-added biomaterials. We are particularly interested in candidates who can build a collaborative research program with faculty in the Warnell School, across campus, and with research partners at regional, national, and international levels, employing these tools for forest health applications, conserving and restoring threatened forest tree species, and improving forest productivity.
Research responsibilities include development of an externally funded program that is recognized nationally and internationally. Teaching duties could include developing new undergraduate and graduate courses in Forest Genetics/Tree Improvement and Forest Biotechnology. Professional service includes serving on School/University committees and actively participating in professional/scientific societies.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required qualifications include a Ph.D. degree prior to the starting date in Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Genetics, Crop and Soil Science, or a closely related field. Preferred qualifications include prior graduate or postdoctoral research training or industrial experience in some area of plant genetics, genomics, biotechnology and/or breeding, and the ability to effectively communicate research findings to the forestry and plant biotechnology research communities, as evidenced by a strong publication record and engagement with stakeholders.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Appointment to Associate Professor requires a record consistent with promotion to Associate Professor at the Warnell School, such as strong evidence of emerging stature as a national authority, acquiring and administering external funding, ability to produce and communicate research products, and excellence in teaching and mentoring students. Service at the Associate Professor level for 1-2 years is preferred for this rank.

The EGU General Assembly 2026, held in Vienna, Austria & online from 3-8 May 2026, brings together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

The session is convened by Debojyoti Chakraborty, BFW (and IUFRO officeholder), and aims to advance knowledge by gathering insights into monitoring approaches, stakeholder perspectives, and policy dimensions of nature-based solutions (NBS) and forest landscape restoration (FLR) under climate change.
