Ecology, silviculture and management of spruce species in mixed forests
Joint Conference hosted by IUFRO Working Group 1.01.08 (Ecology and Silviculture of Spruce) and IUFRO Division 8 (Forest Environment)
August 11-13, 2015
University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta Canada
We have received a number of abstracts but still have space available for talks and posters. Consequently, we have extended the deadline for abstract submission to March 9, 2015.
Please note that while the conference theme focusses on spruce in mixed forests, we also invite presentations and posters that are relevant to Division 8 (forest environment) and Working Group 1.01.08 (ecology and silviculture of spruce).
Description: The conference will focus on benefits, issues, and options associated with growing and managing spruce in mixed forests. We also invite presentations and posters that are relevant to Division 8 (forest environment) and Working Group 1.01.08 (ecology and silviculture of spruce). The program will include invited keynote speakers, volunteer presentations, a panel discussion, and a poster session. A post-conference tour will explore management of Alberta’s forests, including the boreal mixedwood forest in central and northern Alberta and forests on the east slopes of the Rocky Mountains.
Who should attend: The event will be of interest to researchers, policy makers and forestry practitioners.
Cost: The full registration fee for the conference will be $500. Student Delegate Fee is: $400. Early Bird (June 14 or earlier): Regular delegate $400, Student Delegate: $300; 1 day registration: $175; Banquet (not included in registration): $50/person. The registration website should be available within the next 2 weeks.
Cost of the 5 day (4 night) post-conference tour will be approximately $1000.

Call for volunteer papers and posters
We invite submission of titles and abstracts for volunteer oral and poster presentations to be presented at the conference. Oral presentations will be allocated 20 minutes, with an additional 10 minutes to follow for questions and discussion.

(Arrangements have been made to publish selected papers from the conference in a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Forest Research.)
The revised deadline for submission of papers, posters and proposals for sessions is March 9, 2015.
