Position Summary
The Department of Forest, Rangeland, and Fire Sciences at the University of Idaho invites applications for a faculty position in Silviculture at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a tenure-track, 9-month appointment with responsibilities for teaching (40%), research (40%), advising (10%), and outreach/service (10%). The position is located on the main University campus in Moscow, Idaho.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a minimum of three courses per academic year. These courses include; an undergraduate level course in silviculture; and undergraduate level course as a component of the Society of American Foresters accredited Forest Resources degree, and a graduate level course to be developed in consultation with colleagues. The successful candidate is expected to have a commitment to quality teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop a research program in silviculture, focusing on forests of the Inland Northwest. Specific focal areas may include (but are not limited to) plant physiology, stand management, forest regeneration, restoration, tree improvement, forest soils, stand nutrition, density management, mensuration and modeling resilience to threats or forest productivity.

The successful candidate is expected to consult with external agencies as well as private parties. Participation in conferences and symposia is encouraged.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Forest Science, or close equivalent, by the time of appointment. Evidence of potential to secure extramural funding and demonstrated ability to publish research results in refereed journals. Evidence of potential to become an outstanding teacher at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience in designing and conducting research.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated interest in and ability to teach Silviculture and contribute to broader undergraduate teaching in the Department. Demonstrated ability to communicate with broad stakeholders including foresters, industrial and private landowners, state, federal, and tribal agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Interest in delivering online courses. Postdoctoral or similar experience with a successful record of a) extramural funding for research and b) publishing. Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration addressing important contemporary research questions. Work experience in forestry. Familiarity with the land grant mission. Member of Society of American Foresters.
