Non-wood forest products (NWFPs) play an important role in improving the livelihoods of
forest dwellers. Adding value to these products creates new economic opportunities on
forest resources. The lentisk tree (Pistacia lentiscus L.), a common shrub in
Mediterranean forests, produces fruits which are traditionally used to produce a fixed oil
with many therapeutic properties. It is called also Mastic tree because of its resin This
shrub produce as well a healing essential oil extracted from the leaves. and its

With the support of the European Erasmus+ programme, the event is co-organised by the
project coordinator AIFM (International Association for Mediterranean Forests), the
project partner CIHEAM Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) and the Region
of Crete, Regional Unit of Chania, in a hybrid way with both physical and distant
attendees at the premises of MAICh. Five Mediterranean countries should be represented at
the event: France, Greece, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey.
