1st Announcement - Sustaining the Future of Acacia Plantation Forestry, Vietnam, March 2014

"Sustaining the Future of Acacia Plantation Forestry" 18-21 March 2014, Hue, Vietnam This is a joint conference of the recently formed IUFRO Working Party WP 2.08.07 on Acacia Genetics and Silviculture, WP1.02.06 on Ecology and Silviculture of Acacia and WP 2.04.01 on Population, Ecological and Conservation Genetics and will be hosted by the Vietnamese Academy of Forest Sciences (VAFS). The conference will include invited and contributed presentations and posters, discussion sessions, satellite and business meetings, and in-conference and post-conference tours. This 4 days' conference with the theme, "Sustaining the Future of Acacia Plantation Forestry" will be structured so as to promote discussion between geneticists, breeders and scientists concerned with management regime development and interactions of the crop with its biotic and abiotic environment. This broad ranging review should provide scientific support to those responsible for developing and implementing forest plantation management policies. While our primary interest is in tropical acacias we recognize that there is a much more established tradition of planting temperate species such as A. mearnsii, and we will welcome contributions from scientists working on those crops. Alpine Space Programme - PARAmount - Final Conference (Grenoble, 23 April 2012) - Second Announcement & Detailed Programme

Dear IUFRO members, The Final Conference of PARAmount a project funded by the Alpine Space Programme of the European Union will be held on 23rd April 2012 at Grenoble in parallel with the 12th Congress of INTERPRAEVENT (Grenoble, 23 26 April 2012). The Final Conference is designed to bring together experts, researchers, policy and decision makers, practitioners from various disciplines as well as concerned stakeholders for an interdisciplinary, transnational exchange of views on the further development of strategies and technologies for the management of natural hazards threatening transport infrastructure and to present the results of the project concerning the Assessment of the vulnerability of transport infrastructure to natural hazards Improvement of the efficiency of measures necessary to protect transport infrastructure against natural hazards and to increase its reliability and security Advancement of Decision analysis and support systems for an effective management of transport infrastructure threatened by natural risks Development of new concepts and approaches for assessing and monitoring natural risks. The objective of the concluding round table discussion will be to elaborate recommendations for overcoming the identified barriers that might impede the adoption of the developed approaches and concepts as well as to ensure a successful knowledge transfer. IUFRO MELIACEAE MEETING Abstract deadline extended

*The deadline for abstracts has been extended to December 31, 2011 *for the first meeting of the IUFRO working party 1.02.04 – Sustainable management and genetic resources in Meliaceae. This meeting will be held on Monday and Tuesday, June 25 and 26, 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya. The purpose of the meeting is to share the latest in research and applications for a global perspective on solutions for the tropical timber species of the Meliaceae (subfamily Swietenoideae). This meeting will be held in conjunction with the IUFRO-FORNESSA Regional Congress in Africa (IUFRO = International Union of Forest Research Organizations; FORNESSA = Forestry Research Network of Sub-Saharan Africa).
