HIGHLIGHTS

The Forest Watcher mobile app was revamped, offering a variety of new features based on user demand. The updates were designed to not only improve the overall app experience, but also to help reduce bandwidth demands. Visit Forest Watcher Web to download the app and watch the latest Forest Watcher webinar to learn more about the update.

Thanks to generous support from Norway’s Ministry of Climate and Environment, we are pleased to announce that high-resolution satellite imagery has been added back to the GFW platform after a brief hiatus since July. The Planet 5-meter resolution mosaics will be updated monthly and are available for the tropics. You can read the press release here and learn how to use the imagery on GFW here.

A new data layer on GFW shows potential carbon sequestration rates in naturally regenerating forests for the first 30 years of regrowth. Read more about the natural forest regrowth map recently published in Nature or download the corresponding data on the Open Data Portal.

Key Biodiversity Areas are now available on GFW. This data shows sites that significantly contribute to the global persistence of biodiversity.

The Forest Watcher mobile app and applications built with MapBuilder now include the My GFW functionality, allowing you to access your saved areas across GFW tools.

GFW Pro, the platform used by companies to monitor deforestation risk within supply chains, recently incorporated the 2019 tree cover loss data and improved its functionality. If your organization is interested in using GFW Pro, please submit an account request form to get started.
