It is well documented that women and girls in landscapes worldwide continue to be undervalued; they work more, earn less, and have less access to resources and fewer opportunities for education and livelihoods. We also know that the threat of a rollback of hard-won feminist gains is constant (according to a 2019 press release by UN Women). That is why we are eager to announce GLF’s inaugural 16 Women Restoring the Earth, packed with energy, enthusiasm and experience today, March 8 - International Women’s Day. These outstanding women come from across the worlds of finance, landscape restoration, food and livelihoods security – and from across generations, communities and regions. All are at the forefront of efforts to confront the world’s climate crisis and restore the ecosystems that are at the base of the well-being of hundreds of millions of families and women and girls. By recognizing and highlighting the important work of these 16 Women Restoring the Earth, the GLF is celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women everywhere. That includes right in our own organization! At GLF, we insist on gender balance in our work each day, in all of our activities, conferences, learning programs and digital summits. To cite just one recent example, the participants at our landmark finance event, GLF Luxembourg: Investment Case Symposium, was 40 percent female – a proportion that’s rarely seen in the financial sphere. See the list of our 16 Women Restoring the Earth and learn more about their work here. Since 2013, over 7,000 women experts in their field have participated in and attended the Global Landscapes Forums (not including online participation). |
