Graduate Position in Fire Effects and Landscape Ecology, Department of Geography Penn State University
Penn State is seeking a PhD or MS student to work as a research assistant on projects evaluating the effects, spatial patterns, and drivers of recent wildland fires in the Klamath Mountains and southern Cascades of California. The research and graduate program will be supervised by Dr. Alan Taylor.
Applicants should have experience with field measurements of vegetation and site conditions, GIS and remote sensing, and a background in ecology, geography, landscape ecology or related field. Research work includes: inventory of forest overstory, understory and fuels and conducting geospatial analysis and developing models of fire severity using field-collected and remotely sensed data. Students will be expected to supervise undergraduate field technicians. Applicants will have an opportunity to participate in a Landscape-U, a new NSF Research Traineeship in Landscape Science at Penn State.
