Dear working group colleagues,
there is a very low participation in the Evento questionnaire for the
upcoming autumn meeting (9 participants, with only maximum 6 available)
and only one proposition for a talk.
Clearly the period is perhaps too busy for everybody.
I propose thus to postpone to a later date, probably spring, after the
time change to summer time.
However, if there is any interest in an online meeting among groups
members, without talks, but as an occasion for scientists to talk
rapidly, without support about their latest projects /ideas and then
have a discussion develop from this, I have added an additional bullet
point in the Evento :
https://evento.renater.fr/survey/2-08-05-3rd-virtual-meeting-autumn-2023-lj…
As this is easy to organise, I will leave the Evento open until the end
of the week (22 september 15:00 Paris time).
all the best
Oliver

Dear working group colleagues,
summer holidays are over (at least here in the northern hemisphere), a
new university year has started.
During the last webinar, we had planned to do another *webinar in autumn
2023*, however we would have to do it before the time change to winter
time (29th October in Europe, 5th November in the US). After these
dates, the time frame from US west coast to Japan is even more stretched.
I'm not able to organise anything for the last week of October, so I
have set-up an*Evento from the 6th to the 20th of October* (see below).
However, we would need to keep in mind that this is not far away, to I
would need *very rapid feedbacks* on the titles of possible talks, and
speakers would need to prepare their videos quite rapidly.
We propose to do a similar meeting with pre-recorded 20min talks so that
participants can watch the talks before the actual meeting and then
during the meeting, a short 5 min introduction to the talk, before time
for questions and discussion. We welcome very much presentations of
recent publications, by PhD students, Post-docs or senior scientists.
Especially, if you have any PhD students in your lab, please motivate
him or her to either record a 20min talk, or to do a live 3-5 minutes
talk about one experiment of their PhD.
As for the timing, we propose again a 2 hours meeting, with the usual
timing :
12:00-14:00 GMT/UTC, so early in the day for Americans (5-7 San
Francisco, 7-9 Chicago, 9-11 Argentina), early afternoon for people in
Europe (14-16 Paris CEST) and late in the day for scientists in Asia
(Tokyo 21-23)
In the following date survey you can pick your favourite dates as well
as indicate if you would like to introduce a pre-recorded 20min talk or
do a 3-5min presentation. As we do not have much time to prepare, please
also leave a comment with a preliminary title of your talk (or just some
keywords about the species concerned, and your scientific discipline).

I will end this survey next Wednesday (13th September), if there are
sufficient talks and participants, we go ahead. Otherwise I propose to
wait for spring.
Also, please contact me directly if you have new scientists in your
group to add to the IUFRO mailing list.
By the way, this email has been sent using my personal list of email
addresses, I will send a second email via the IUFRO webmail list (the
subject will start with "reminder", the email body the same as here).
This email has to go through the IUFRO checking process, but if you have
not gotten the test email by Friday, you should check with your IT
services. All other people can just ignore the second email. And send me
an email, so that I can always copy you into all IUFRO emails (I will
keep a separate list).
I hope to see you all virtually in October
all the best
Oliver
