Dear colleagues,

to be able to organize a spring webinaire of our IUFRO group on Evolution and adaptation of Fagaceae and Nothofagaceae, perhaps from mid to end April, and to give some more time to the presenters to record their talks, we need to start early.  And we are looking for a date that suits most members of the group.

We propose to do a similar meeting with pre-recorded 20min talks and then a short 5 min introduction to the talk during the meeting before having time for questions and discussion.

We all agreed last time that we would like to see more PhD students present their work. So if you have any PhD students in your lab with a topic close to our group, please motivate him or her to either record a 20min talk, or to do a live 3-5 minutes talk about one experiment of their PhD.

We welcome very much presentations of recent publications, by PhD students, Post-docs or senior scientists.

In the following date survey you can pick your favourite dates as well as indicate if you would like to introduce a pre-recorded 20min talk or do a 3-5min presentation. If possible, also leave a comment with a preliminary title of your talk (or just some keywords about the species concerned, and your scientific discipline).

Please respond to this survey by the 21. February.

As for the timing, we propose again a 2 hours meeting, and we will switch back to the timing of the first meeting :

12:00-14:00 GMT/UTC,  so early in the day for Americans (5-7 San Francisco, 7-9 Chicago, 9-11 Argentina), early afternoon for people in Europe (14-16 Paris CEST) and late  in the day for scientists in Asia (Tokyo 21-23)

You will be able to watch the 20min talks one week before the meeting on either Youtube or Youku, which also means that the recorded talks should be available one week before the chosen meeting date.

We would also like to present in more detail the results from the membership survey that we shared before the June 2021 meeting.

The link to the survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/IUFROFagaceaeWorkingGroup

A total of 63 people have responded (whereas the mailing list is >140 people). We ask a few basic questions:
    • what are your research interests?
    • do you plan on participating in upcoming meetings in 2022?
    • how could the working group best engage you?

It would be great if we could have a more complete view of your IUFRO group. The survey is still open and should take you less than ten minutes to complete.  Your participation would greatly help us make more effective and engaging plans for future activities.

We hope to see you all there, virtually

best regards

Oliver Brendel, Chuck Cannon & Keiko Kitamura
