Dear IUFRO colleagues,

to give speakers enough time to prepare their pre-recorded talk, it will be important to have rapidly an overview of the participation in the event and a probable date. Therefore I would like to urge you to respond to the date survey in the next days. The survey will be closed next wednesday.

Dear colleagues,

as the June online meeting had been quite well received, the decision had been taken to do another meeting towards the end of the year of our IUFRO group on Evolution and adaptation of Fagaceae and Nothofagaceae.

We propose to do a similar meeting with pre-recorded 20min talks and then a short 5 min introduction to the talk before having time for questions and discussion.

We would like to see more PhD students present their work. To motivate them, we propose that they also can do a live 180 seconds talk (a competition that is running in many countries, check it out at https://threeminutethesis.uq.edu.au).

In the following date survey you can pick your favourite dates as well as indicate if you would like to introduce a pre-recorded 20min talk or do a 180 seconds presentation. If possible, also leave a comment with a preliminary title of your talk (or just some keywords about the species concerned, and your scientific discipline).

As for the timing, we propose again a 2 hours meeting, but due to the changes with the winter time change, we will use an inverted set-up, which covers 2 dates :

21:00-23:00 GMT/UTC, early afternoon for for Americans (13-15 San Francisco, 15-17 Chicago, 17-19 Buenos Aires), late  in the day/night for people in Europe (22-24 Paris CET) and so early the next day folks in Asia (Shanghai 5-7 ;Tokyo 6-8). So for example the meeting would be the 22 November for Americans and Europeans and the 23 November for Asians.

You will be able to watch the 20min talks one week before the meeting on either Youtube or Youku, which also means that the recorded talks should be available one week before the chosen meeting date.

We will also present results from the membership survey that we shared before the June meeting. A total of 50 people have responded (whereas the mailing list is >140 people). We ask a few basic questions:

It would be great if we could have a more complete view of your IUFRO group. The survey is still open and should take you less than ten minutes to complete.  Your participation would greatly help us make more effective and engaging plans for future activities.

We hope to see you all there, virtually

best regards
