Dear colleagues,
it has been a while since the last visual group meeting in last summer.
I’m sure that you have many exciting new results to share.
To be able to organize a *spring webinaire of our IUFRO group*on
Evolution and Adaptation of Fagaceae and Nothofagaceae, at the beginning
of May, *we are looking for a date*that suits most members of the group.
Due to the many bank holidays in May, this choice will be limited to
dates between the 9^th and the 17^th of May.
We propose to do a similar meeting with pre-recorded 20min talks so that
participants can watch the talks before the actual meeting and then
during the meeting, a short 5 min introduction to the talk, before time
for questions and discussion.
We welcome very much presentations of recent publications, by PhD
students, Post-docs or senior scientists.
Especially, if you have any PhD students in your lab with a topic close
to our group, please motivate him or her to either record a 20min talk,
or to do a live 3-5 minutes talk about one experiment of their PhD.
Also, please contact me directly if you have new scientists in your
group to add to the mailing list.
In the following date survey you can pick your favourite dates as well
as indicate if you would like to introduce a pre-recorded 20min talk or
do a 3-5min presentation. If possible, also leave a comment with a
preliminary title of your talk (or just some keywords about the species
concerned, and your scientific discipline).

*Please respond to this survey by the 2**1**. February. *
As for the timing, we propose again a 2 hours meeting, and we will
switch back to the timing of the first meeting :
12:00-14:00 GMT/UTC, so early in the day for Americans (5-7 San
Francisco, 7-9 Chicago, 9-11 Argentina), early afternoon for people in
Europe (14-16 Paris CEST) and late in the day for scientists in Asia
(Tokyo 21-23)
You will be able to watch the 20min talks one week before the meeting on
Youtube, which also means that the recorded talks should be available
one week before the chosen meeting date.
We hope to see you all there, virtually
best regards
Oliver Brendel, Chuck Cannon & Keiko Kitamura

Dear colleagues,
A position as a permanent INRAE researcher is open at the Silva unit in
Nancy, France, entitled "*Research officer on functional diversity under
water stress*".
I post this job offer on our Fagaceae and Nothofagaceae mailing list,
because
a) we are looking for a young research in ecophysiology, but who is
interested in within-species diversity and might also have some
background in population genetics
b) because he/she will, at least in the beginning, work very probably on
oak or beech.
The aim is to study the intra-specific and even intra-population
diversity of functional traits observed on young trees subjected to
water stress, using multi-trait approaches to identify and characterise
individual strategies of resistance and resilience to these
disturbances. The aim will be to integrate scales, functional responses
and response dynamics to describe the overall functioning of young trees.
