This workshop is to be organized as an IUFRO activity for the Asia and Pacific region, and discussions had been going on with the Research Institute of Tropical Forestry to host this workshop in Guangzhou, sometime in early December this year. We have drafted out a 'first announcement' to be circulated out as early as possible to attract attention. As the coordinators of IUFRO units which are relevant to the subject matter that we wish to cover in this workshop, Dr Alexander Buck, the Executive Director of IUFRO, advised that we should get in touch with you all. We would appreciate very much if you could send us your views and comments to further enhance the focus and content of this workshop. The draft 'first announcement' is still very scratchy and at best tentative. It certainly will benefit from inputs from you all.
