European forests are of immense importance to people, the environment and the economy. They provide timber, biodiversity, water catchment protection, medicine, areas of natural beauty, protection against avalanche, flooding and landslides and many other benefits.

These forests, however, are under unprecedented threat:

    Rapid climate change, which places ecosystems under stress,

    An escalation in the numbers of alien pests (with particular attention to the pine wood nematode) and pathogens fuelled by increased global trade, population mobility and tourism,

    And how climate change and the pests and pathogens are interacting to increase the threat.

In this webinar Professor Hugh Evans, Deputy Coordinator 7.03.12 – Alien invasive species and international trade, and Professor Steve Woodward will address these factors by discussing their work with two key projects at the forefront of protecting Europe’s trees and plants: REPHRAME and ISEFOR.
