Dear Forest Ent Colleagues:
July 1 is rapidly approaching and this marks the deadline for registering for the joint meeting of IUFRO working parties, 7.03.05 "Ecology and Management of Bark and Wood Boring Insects" and 7.03.12 "Alien Invasive Species and International
Trade" in Bariloche, Argentina.
I encourage all of you to make an effort to attend. This is going to be a fantastic meeting in many ways. These two units have never before jointly met and given the growing importance of invading insects in our field, this will be a key
meeting. It is also a great opportunity for those with interests in, or seeking exposure to problems in planted forests.
The word "spectacular" is an under-statement in describing the setting in Argentine, Patagonia. We'll have an opportunity to see some of North America's finest conifer species growing in the setting of crystal blue lakes and snow-capped
mountains. And "best" yet, many of these stands are being severely damaged by the destructive and charismatic woodwasp, Sirex noctilio. The combination of trees, mountains and forest insects doesn't get any better!
So if you are undecided about attending the meeting, I'd encourage you to go. But please be sure to submit your abstract before July at:
