Job Description

 

Rainbow Treecare Scientific Advancements is currently seeking an Entomology Specialist to join our Research and Education Division.

 

Title:                             Research Entomologist                                      

 

Job Classification:         Regular, full time, salaried position

 

Description:                  The research entomologist is responsible for conducting research aimed at creating insect management protocols and developing products for the treecare market.  In addition this person will be responsible for providing insect related technical training and education to RTSA staff and clients.  This person will coordinate with RTSA’s Director of Research and Education and will assist with the responsibilities of the Product Development Director.  The person in this position must possess a fundamental commitment to the advancement of the science of arboriculture.   

 

RTSA Research Division is involved in numerous research projects across the United States in an effort to develop innovative solutions that advance the science of tree care.   RTSA research projects focus on identifying practical approaches for managing insects, diseases and other problems that affect tree health.  RTSA strives to provide the necessary knowledge and tools, which serve arborists in their pursuit of excellence in caring for the health and preservation of trees.

 

Duties:             

•           Conduct and coordinate all RTSA insect research in the United States

•           Direct and conduct multiple internal research projects simultaneously

•           Coordinate multiple contract research trials with university and industry scientists

•           Evaluate insect management data on products to help guide RTSA product development decisions

•           Publish pertinent research findings in trade and peer reviewed journals

 

 

 

•           Provide training to RTSA staff and clients

•           Assist in creating pesticide product labels

•           Assist with bringing innovative products to market

•           Develop insect management protocols and fact sheets

•           Provide technical support to RTSA clients

•           Foster relationships with scientists and key market influencers

 

Reports To:                   Director of Research and Education

 

Qualifications:  

            Person Must Possess:

•           Must possess at least an MS in entomology or related field, however, PhD is preferred

•           Knowledge of tree insect pests

•           Experience and knowledge in planning, designing and implementing applied research experiments

•           An ability to analyze and interpret statistical data

•           The ability to be adaptable to changing roles

•           Creativity and an ability to be innovative

•           Strong written and verbal communication skills

•           An ability to communicate technical and scientific information to scientists, practitioners, and lay people

•           Must be able to travel at least 15% of the year

•           A valid United States driver’s license

 

 

Pluses:

•           Extension and outreach experience

•           Practical work experience in the field of arboriculture

•           Background in tree physiology

•           Knowledge and experience in developing and bringing products to market

•           Knowledge of current tree care market and products

 

Salary and Benefits:            Salary commensurate with experience and education, benefits include health, dental and 401K

 

Work Environment:        RTSA’s work environment encourages individual initiative and creativity.  The office and facility is a non-smoking facility.
