The workshop will be held in Kámoni Arboretum Szombathely, Hungary from 1st – 3rd Sep. 2014. The workshop is free of charge, but the participants will be required to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses (€50 per night). IUFRO MELIACEAE MEETING Abstract deadline extended

*The deadline for abstracts has been extended to December 31, 2011 *for the first meeting of the IUFRO working party 1.02.04 – Sustainable management and genetic resources in Meliaceae. This meeting will be held on Monday and Tuesday, June 25 and 26, 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya. The purpose of the meeting is to share the latest in research and applications for a global perspective on solutions for the tropical timber species of the Meliaceae (subfamily Swietenoideae). IUFRO TREE BIOTECHNOLOGY 2011 - BRAZIL "From genomes to integration and delivery" Arraial d' Ajuda, Bahia Brazil June 26 to July 2, 2011 Scientific program now available Extended abstract submission and registrations Dear IUFRO colleagues, The Conference organization is developing exceptionally well. The organizing committee has also extended the abstract submission deadlines in order to capture an increased representation of worldwide contributions to the Conference. The new deadlines are: Submission of abstracts to be selected for oral presentation March 31, 2011 Submission of abstract for poster presentation only April 30, 2011 STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS. Applications for Student Travel Grants are open. A number of travel grants will be available to students regularly enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs and presenting an abstract as first author either orally or as poster. The awards will include complimentary registration and a grant towards the recipients' accommodation costs. Applications are in English only and must be received by March 31, 2011. Confirmations will be made before April 15, 2011. BEST ABSTRACT AWARDS. Awards will be granted to the three best abstracts presented orally and the three best abstracts presented as posters by students or young scientists (< 35 years old) as first authors, irrespective of the program session. The updated Poplar genome, the upcoming Eucalyptus genome and the concerted efforts towards a conifer genome sequence are increasingly fueling a multitude of studies and applications both in sustainable forest production and conservation. Besides wood development, disease resistance, abiotic stress and reproductive biology, tree biotechnology research is now addressing the challenges of bioenergy production and carbon sequestration, while generating fundamental information on the impact of trees on ecosystems and the associated biodiversity. Time calls for integration rather than reduction with an increased sense of urgency for delivery of effective biotechnologies.
