Dear Subtropical and Tropical Silviculture Researchers:

The 125th Anniversary Congress of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations will be held in Freiburg, Germany, September 19-22, 2017 (for information, see http://iufro2017.com/). Abstracts should be submitted by November 30, 2016, at http://iufro2017.com/call-for-abstracts/ . Guidelines for abstract submission and for application for funding for attending the Congress are attached. Funds for attending the meeting are for early career researchers (under 45 years old) from less developed countries.

The deadline for session proposals was June 30, 2016, and I missed that (!) for the Meliaceae, but we still have an opportunity to organize a session on Research Advances for the Timber Species of the Meliaceae if sufficient abstracts are submitted for such a session. So if you are interested in participating in a session for the Meliaceae Working Party 1.04.02, (http://www.iufro.org/science/divisions/division-1/10000/10200/10204/) (http://www.iufro.org/) please keep reading.

For the abstract to be considered for a Meliaceae session, please submit under Theme 3: Forests and Forest-Based Products for a Greener Future, and then 42 - Open Session. Please send an email to mahoganyforthefuture@gmail.com, when you have submitted an abstract for the Meliaceae session, so that I can inform the meeting organizers that the abstract should be included in the Meliaceae session. Instructions for abstract submission are attached, as well as instructions for applying for a scholarship to attend the meeting, if you qualify.

The IUFRO Meliaceae Working Party is a forum for the exchange of information for all interested parties on sustainable management and genetic resources for timber species of the Meliaceae. For the Meliaceae session, it would be good to cover a range of advances in Meliaceae management in natural forests and plantations, ecology, genetics, insects and their control, and uses of Meliaceae species in different contexts such as afforestation and watershed protection, among other topics.

Hope to see you in Freiburg!

Sheila Ward

Coordinator, IUFRO Working Party 1.04.02
