To the Members of the IUFRO Enlarged Board:
Dear Colleagues,
As you may be aware the XV World Forestry
Congress<https://wfc2021korea.org/index.html> (WFC) will be held next May in Seoul,
Korea. The WFC Secretariat has partnered with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) to
develop a short-term mentoring programme that connects young people (ages 18-35) with
seasoned forest sector professionals. The programme is called "Green Mentor". I
am writing to you on the request of the WFC Secretariat with the invitation to consider
becoming a mentor in this programme.
The WFC Secretariat has received an overwhelming response of over 450 youth and young
professional across the world desiring to be paired with a mentor. Given this strong
interest by mentees in the programme, there is an urgent need to find additional forestry
professionals, including scientists, who volunteer to serve as mentors. Therefore, I would
like to ask you to consider joining this programme as a mentor. Please confirm your
interest in joining the programme by getting back to me (with a copy to burns(a)iufro.org)
by the end of this week (i.e. Sunday, November 28th), if possible.
The programme will run from January through to June 2021 and will request a 2-3 hour time
commitment each month. There will be training for both mentors and mentees offered if
needed, and webinars to support. A 'career map' will be provided for the mentees
to complete with the mentor. The process is completely mentee driven, so it is up to the
mentees to initiate contact and guide the programme. There will be a space at the Congress
to meet, in case the mentor and mentee will both attend the Congress, but it is not
required. Further information about Green Mentor is available at
https://bit.ly/PLTCWFC
Please note that the official deadline for applications has passed, but the WFC
Secretariat is prepared to manually add you to the list and link you to potential
mentees.
Kind regards,
Alexander
