In this session, Dr. Anna Brietzke (Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE), Germany ) will explore local forest conflicts through a critical care perspective.

Drawing on mediated round table discussions from a case study in a German upland region, Dr. Brietzke examines how different human actors engage with and actively shape the forest as a social-ecological system. They highlight how the four actors under consideration regard their practices as forms of care and argue that the roots of certain conflicts lie precisely in these care practices. Finally, they consider the potential of a care perspective to bridge divides and facilitate dialogue between actors, particularly in conflict settings.

This event is part of a broader effort within RG 6.05.00 to create a global platform for discussing forest-related conflicts, their cultural and political dimensions, and pathways toward more just and sustainable forest futures.
The session lasts one hour and begins with a 20‑minute guest presentation, followed by an open discussion.
