Webinar: Harnessing the Future: AI Tools for the Modern Forester
25 November 2025, 1:00-3:00 pm (UTC+0)
The global forest sector is undergoing a rapid digital transformation, driven by unprecedented volumes of data from remote sensing technologies (satellites, drones, LiDAR) and the urgent need for
precise management to combat climate change, biodiversity loss, and illegal deforestation.
IUFRO Research Group 6.09 on Forest Education recognizes that traditional forestry curricula often lag behind these technological shifts. A recent global assessment highlighted the critical gap in preparing bachelor-level students to effectively utilize digital
tools, predictive analytics, and large datasets, which are now standard requirements in both public and private forest management bodies.
This dedicated webinar aims to bridge this educational gap. By introducing undergraduate students to the core concepts and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), IUFRO RG 6.09 seeks to empower the next generation of
forest professionals to transition from manual, field-based inventory methods to high-precision, data-driven sustainable forest management (SFM). This initiative directly supports the mandate to promote innovative teaching and update forest-related curricula
globally.
