Who's gracing APFW2019?
 
Curious to know who else will be joining Mr. Ban Ki-moon as speakers at the Asia-Pacific Forestry Week (APFW) 2019?  We are delighted to introduce the first round of sustainability spokespeople, peace patrons and inspiring icons who will be speaking at APFW 2019. The following speakers will be featured in the opening and closing ceremonies, plenaries, and other diverse events to share their messages related to Forests for Peace and Well-being.
Siti Nurbaya
 
Minister Siti Nurbaya holds a PhD in environmental science and has been the Indonesian Minister of the Environment and Forestry since 2014. She has previously worked as an officer at Lampung Provincial Government, Deputy Head of Provincial Development Planning Board, Director of Planning Bureau in the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Secretary General of the Ministry. Minister Nurbaya is an active spokesperson for natural resource management, female empowerment and democratic processes at numerous international fora.
Won Sop Shin
 
Dr Won Sop Shin is a professor at Chungbuk National University in Korea – heading the Graduate Department of Forest Therapy - and is the Chair of the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO). His expansive research experience in forests and human health and well-being informed key policy contributions during his four-year term as Minister of the Korea Forest Service (KFS). Dr Won Sop actively works with international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Society of Nature and Forest Medicine (INFOM).
Thomas Hofer
 
Dr Thomas Hofer has a background in Geography and Biology. He implemented his masters and PhD studies in the Himalayan Region with a focus on watershed management and highland-lowland linkages. In 1998, he joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Before his transfer to Bangkok, he coordinated FAO’s global program on watershed management, mountain development, and forest hydrology as well as the Mountain Partnership Secretariat. Since 2017, he works as Senior Forestry Officer, Coordinator of the Natural Resources Management Group, and Secretary of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission at FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. 
Robert Nasi

Dr Robert Nasi has a PhD in ecology from Paris-Sud University, and has held several research and management positions at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) since 1999. He has undertaken extensive ecological and tropical forest management research in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. His scientific work aims to integrate social and biological sciences for better management of tropical forests, more sustainable livelihoods, and better designed forest policies. He has authored or co-authored more than 300 scientific publications.
Manizha Wafeq
 
Ms Manizha Wafeq is the president of the Afghanistan Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AWCCI), and works as the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women's facilitator for the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® Network in Afghanistan. With over 16 years of international experience in women’s empowerment and gender equality, Ms Wafeq has educated 
hundreds of businesswomen and government employees on these concepts.
Moon Kook-Hyun
 
Mr Moon Kook-Hyun is Chairman of Friends of the Asia Foundation, CEO of New Paradigm Institute, and CEO of Hansoll Textile Ltd. He is the former Group President and Chairman of the Board, Kimberly-Clark North Asia, and former CEO of Yuhan-Kimberly, Limited. Mr Moon initiated the company's “Keep Korea Green” environmental campaign in 1984, which lead to several offspring projects to engage people in forestry, such as “Forest for Life”, “Forest for Schools”and “Forest for Peace”.
Ben Gunneberg
 
Mr Ben Gunneberg has been the CEO and Secretary General of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) since 1999. A chartered forester with extensive experience, Ben has worked as a researcher of forest economics at the University of Wales and in technical and policy roles in the UK Timber Growers Association. He holds an MBA from the Open University, and a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.
Javier Manzanares
 
Mr Javier Manzanares has held a number of roles with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) over the past 5 years, and is currently Deputy Executive Director. He has extensive banking experience and has previously held a position as Director and Representative of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). Javier holds a dual MBA from the Kellogg School of Management,  Northwestern University (USA), an Executive MBA from Hong Kong University of Sciences & Technology (China) and is currently a PhD candidate at Inha University in the Republic of Korea.
Melody Hossaini
 
Ms Melody Hossaini is a prominent social entrepreneur and the Founder and CEO of InspirEngage International, with experience as a lecturer, student mentor, Government adviser, author, BBC "The Apprentice" candidate and more. Starting as a war-refugee, Melody became a co-founder of UK Youth Parliament at 13 years old, and became the first female to chair its board of Trustees. Melody has worked with and been trained by 12 Nobel Peace Prize Winners, including Vice-president Al Gore on climate change and Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Peace Implementation.
Doris Capistrano
 
Dr Doris Capistrano is Senior Advisor of the ASEAN-Swiss Partnership on Social Forestry and Climate Change (ASFCC), Senior Fellow of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), and Fellow of the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI). She was Director of Forests and Governance of CIFOR, and has worked throughout Asia with the Ford Foundation in rural poverty and the environment. Her research roles extend to being a Visiting Professor at Wageningen University and a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Florida.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Korea Forest Service (KFS), the Incheon Metropolitan City and partners invite people  who are interested in and committed to sustainable forest management in Asia and the Pacific to come together for the APFW 2019 in Incheon, the Republic of Korea from 17 to 21 June 2019.  It is expected to be one of the largest and most important forestry gatherings in the region in 2019. APFW 2019: Forests for Peace and Well-being seeks to encourage participants to chart new pathways that guide the development of forestry into the future.
