Dear IUFRO Division 5 members,
 
I am pleased to announced that the IUFRO Working Party 5.04.13 Industrial Engineering, Operations Analysis and Logistics is planning to publish a quarterly Newsletter beginning in July 2015. The goal of this newsletter is to provide with up to date information on all aspects related to Industrial Engineering research applied to wood products. The broad themes that the newsletter will cover are:
  1. Process Automation in Forest Products industries including robotics, computer numerical controlled (CNC) and programmable logic controllers (PLC) integration
  2.  Machine Vision and Scanning Technology applications
  3.  Production Planning and Control in forest and wood products industries
  4. Optimization and Simulation models in logistics and manufacturing processes
  5. Software developments such as ERP, MRP, CAM, CAD
  6. Supply Chain Management models in forest and wood products industries
  7. Ergonomics and Organizational Safety in Forest Products Industries
  8.  Life Cycle Costing (LCC) for Forest Products
  9.  Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) applications in the forest products value-chain
  10. Statistical Process Control (SPC) developments
  11. Product Development Engineering
  12. Continuous Improvement Initiatives including Lean Management, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Total Quality Management

            Keep in mind that IUFRO offers a holistic platform where cultural diversity, social awareness, environmental impact, and economic development are disseminated in a unique and powerful structure. The breadth of knowledge that is being generated from faculty and students around the World in Industrial Engineering research is outstanding at all levels. This newsletter will be a great window to showcase your ongoing research, teaching, and extension activities related to the IUFRO Working Party 5.04.13 to the World.

            Acceptable contributions are in the form of research updates, success histories, event announcements, available scholarships, awards received, grants announcements, and editorial opinions on relevant topics to the Working Party. Submissions should include a picture or figure (if possible), a narrative of less than 300 words, and contact information.
