The year 2024 was a landmark for IUFRO, highlighted by the 26th IUFRO World Congress held in Stockholm, Sweden. This Congress was IUFRO's first major global in-person gathering since the pandemic, and the renewed enthusiasm for face-to-face interaction brought exceptional energy and vitality to what became the largest Congress in IUFRO's history.
The event also marked the start of a new Board term and Presidency, which will continue through to the next IUFRO World Congress in 2029. Set to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, the first time the Congress will be hosted on the African continent. Among the first initiatives of the new Board was the introduction of dual Division leadership, aimed at enhancing gender, regional, and cultural balance across the organization.
The five thematic pillars of the Congress also serve as the organizing framework for this Annual Report, under which IUFRO's activities throughout the year are presented. Beyond the Congress and its rich, diverse scientific program, IUFRO facilitated a total of 62 meetings in 2024 - 37 held virtually and 25 in person, including five hybrid events.
Throughout the year, IUFRO also presented several major publications, including three volumes in the IUFRO World Series. The IUFRO Podcast series continued to thrive, with Season 2 shifting its focus from the Congress (Season 1) to the Divisions.
