Associate Professor or Full Professor in Silviculture (Deadline: January 31, 2018)

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in the Departments of Forest and Conservation Sciences or Forest Resources Management, Faculty of Forestry, University of British Columbia. The successful candidate is expected to be appointed at the Associate or Full Professor level. Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or the equivalent) and significant research experience in silviculture, an international reputation as a leading scholar and a commitment to educating undergraduate, professional masters, and research graduate students. Eligibility to become a BC Registered Professional Forester is highly desirable. The successful candidate should be able to bring relevant scientific knowledge and understanding to public debate on silvicultural policy and practice. The successful candidate will be expected to secure funding from external sources such as NSERC and other governmental and industrial organizations. Research themes should include silvicultural practices and problems. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in silviculture and contribute to spring and fall field schools. The position may also include acting as a program director for an undergraduate or professional master’s program. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Faculty of Forestry has strong teaching and research programs that embrace the full range of forest science and management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Faculty offers undergraduate programs in Forest Sciences, Forestry, Urban Forestry, Natural Resource Conservation and Wood Processing, along with professional master’s programs in Sustainable Forest Management, Geomatics and Environmental Management, and International Forestry. The Faculty has two research forests, which represent a range of forest ecosystems, as well as a Forest Sciences Centre with modern research and teaching facilities and a strong supporting community of scholars.
