Dear Ms. Loewe Muñoz and Ms. Park

My name is Nenad Šimunović and I work for Mondi Group as a Forest Policy and Sustainability Expert.

Herby I would like to inform you about a research project which Mondi Group is supporting in Czech Republic. The project is focused on the economic assessment of closer to nature forestry and our main scientific partners is University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Prague. Within the project we are collecting empirical data from forest stands managed according to the principles of closer to nature forestry and developing a methodology for the assessment of economic performance of such type of forest management. The overarching aim of the project is to enable comparison of closer to nature forestry with traditional forest management practices in Czech Republic. Furthermore, we hope to provide valuable insights to policy makers in Europe, who are signalling growing interest into closer to nature forestry (e.g.) although there seems to be a research gap regarding the economics of such forest management practices.

My understanding is that the topic of our project could fit well the work of IUFRO’s Silviculture Division. I would welcome any suggestions if and how we could disseminate information about the project within the Division and explore possibilities of any collaboration with your members. For example, we will organize a small conference in November 2026 where we will present our preliminary results. We are curious if any members of the Division would be interested in attending the event?
